Where to order postage stamps online? Well, a quick search on the Google search engine reveals well over 3 million results relating to online postage stamp services and websites. HOWEVER, among these websites, Endicia.com and Stamps.com are the most popular. Being someone who got sick and tired of falling in line at the post office, I gave both of these online postage services a try. And here’s what I have found:

At first sight, Endicia.com may look like the ticket for convenience and flexibility especially for commercial applications. HOWEVER, experience with Endicia.com told me that the stamp feedstock is extremely expensive for taking care of household mailing and postage demands. According to the latest stats and calculations I have made, it adds approximately $0.105 to the cost of postage or about 7 cents if you would grab 2000 labels in one go. If the United States Postal Office would add 10 cents to First Class mailing rate, I’m pretty sure that it would cause a public outrage!

Along with that, there is something that potential subscribers and buyers for Endicia.com should know about – they are the only supplier for the stamp feedstock for LabelWriter Turbo label printers. Well, according to the owners, this is to protect them by preventing users from illegally printing unauthorized stamps and postages. I don’t know about you BUT I can’t, for the life of me, figure out how such a risk could arise. Along with that, the LabelWriter Printer occasionally allows jam ups especially with the sticky side of the label. And just in case you don’t know, this means a huge potential for more expenses.

While it is true that Endicia’s software notifies you that you need to have sufficient labels on the roll for you to complete multiple stamp printing. HOWEVER, it doesn’t tell you what would happen if the label queue jams up on the printer. In simpler terms, you would lose some of the value of your print order. Here’s an example – if you want to print 100 first class mail stamps and it jammed right from the onset, it means a clearly wasting $44! This leaves me frustrated and scratching my head especially when you realize that modern print drivers can determine the hardware status of your printer REAL time, therefore preventing you from losses caused by hardware malfunction.

I just can’t believe how much money I have lost and given to the post office.
